Portrait of Dr. Yasanthi Soans

About me

As a licensed clinical psychologist, I offer many years of experience helping individuals and couples lead better lives. I approach my work with an effective mix of compassion and knowledge, support and challenge, kindness and intelligence, insightful reflection and hard work. I am very committed to helping my clients understand themselves and achieve their goals.

I use psychodynamic techniques to facilitate a meaningful, lasting understanding of one's unique way of perceiving the world and of relating with the world. Importantly, I also use appropriate cognitive behavioral techniques to impart useful skills for improved everyday functioning.

I welcome the opportunity to meet with you and to talk about what you may need from therapy at this time.

In their words

What it's been like
to work together.

I can't recommend Dr. Soans highly enough. My wife and I have been seeing her as a couple to improve our communication. I have been so impressed with her ability to guide us in challenging times. She works to help us identify the deeper layers that steer our responses to each other. Seeing this has helped me build a level of empathy and understanding for my spouse that makes the tough times so much easier. I was able to open up and feel trust very quickly with Dr. Soans when we began our sessions. She is candid and fair, kind and thoughtful. She is also helpful in thinking of very practical ways to approach challenges, giving concrete tools to use outside of our sessions.

Dr. Soans has been my therapist for approximately 2 years now. I have gone to multiple therapists in the past and have been disappointed, but I find with Dr. Soans I am more comfortable and relaxed which has lead to me being more open and honest. This is mostly due to Dr. Soans demeanor; she is professional, trustworthy, warm and understanding. Not only have I noticed change in myself, but those close to me have also seen change in me. I can't say enough good things about my experience with Dr. Soans and look forward to untangling more and seeing continuing change and growth.

Yas is compassionate, kind and honest. She has a friendly and humorous approach to treatment, and she seems personally invested in your progress and growth. Her manner is direct, thoughtful, and responsive. She will point out the uncomfortable but in a gentle way. Also, she is open to criticism and is interested in making treatment a conversation. She has a real gift for empathy and I wholeheartedly recommend her.

Dr. Soans was a perfect fit for my daughter and I. Since we live in different states, after our initial visit, we met on Skype. Dr. Soans is an empathetic, skilled listener. She gave us a framework which helped us progress comfortably. I learned a lot about communicating with my daughter. These skills can be used in all social situations. I loved her honesty and ability to cut through the fluff and drama, expose the real underlying issues, and deal with them head on. I recommend Dr. Soans highly!!!
